FINNISH QUALITY ASSOCIATION

The Finnish Quality Association was established in 1966 as an ideological non-profit-making association. Professor Olli Lokki of Helsinki University of Technology was the founding force, basing it on the idea that “we should have quality monitoring activities along the same lines as in Sweden”. Right from the start links were forged with Europe, and Finland’s first representative at the European Organization for Quality Control (EOQC) was Juhani Koivula.

Starting at the association’s 10-year anniversary in 1976, the association’s board of directors awarded its first prize and certificate of honor for promoting quality work in Finland to Asko-Upo Oy’s industrial arm. In 1984 our logo, comprising the Gaussian curve associated with inspection, was changed into a pyramid, emphasizing the sharp peak. From 1991 onwards, the recipient of Finland’s quality awards was selected on the basis of the Malcolm Baldrige criteria and after 2001 it has been based on the EFQM-model.

The Finnish Quality Association (Suomen Laatuyhdistys ry) wholly owns Laatukeskus Excellence Finland Oy, which supports the association’s operations by specialising in training and consultancy services. We use Laatukeskus Excellence Finland as a brand name. At the end of 2013altogether over 500 Finnish private- and public sector organizations were members of our association, with thousands business developers and opinion leaders actively participating in the association’s activities. Since 1991, the Finnish Quality Association has organized Finland’s Quality Award competition, nowadays called the Excellence Finland, and also over the last seven years the Quality Innovation of the Year competition, which has grown to become an international event. The President of the Republic of Finland has personally signed the award certificates.

OUR VISION

Our national objective is a successful Finland, basing its success largely on nurturing a growing pool of organizations that pursue long-term development of both their management and their operations. Such organizations are better equipped than others to react to demands imposed by changes in their operating environment.

  • Wellbeing. A competent, motivated and contented personnel forms an excellent cornerstone for our operations. Our activities aim to create wellbeing also outside our association.

OUR MEMBERSHIP

Our membership includes

  • key corporate members and
  • supporting corporate members, which are companies and public sector organisations, as well as
  • individual members.


The association’s policy guidelines are set out by the Advisory Board, which comprises senior managers from our key corporate members.
The Advisory Board sets the national agenda for quality for each strategy period.

VISIOMME

Kansallinen tavoitteemme on menestyvä Suomi, joka perustuu mm. siihen, että Suomessa on jatkuvasti kasvava määrä johtamistaan ja toimintaansa pitkäjänteisesti kehittäviä organisaatioita. Johtamistaan ja toimintaansa kehittävät yhteisöt ovat muita valmiimpia reagoimaan ympäristön muutosten vaatimuksiin.

ARVOMME

Erinomaisuus. Olemme erinomaisuuden lipunkantaja Suomessa. Kehitymme ja kehitämme muita kohti erinomaisuutta. Verkostoituminen. Toimimme aktiivisena verkostojen rakentajana niin kansallisesti kuin kansainvälisesti. Toimimme myös Suomen viestinviejinä kansainvälisesti laatuasioissa. Rehellisyys. Rehellisyys, oikeudenmukaisuus ja läpinäkyvyys ovat meillä vakiintuneita toimintatapoja, joista emme tingi.
Hyvinvointi. Osaava, motivoitunut ja iloinen henkilöstö on erinomaisen toimintamme perusedellytys. Luomme toiminnallamme hyvinvointia myös ulospäin.
